Question gettinga 240sx out of state???

hey everyone, i live in southern california and have really noticed that s13s else where in the us are in way better condition than california junkers at the same price. are all 240's equipped to meet california emssions ? if not would i still be able to bring it in?

Yea, they should be. If I were you though, I would replace the cat. Do a tune up and then go for the smog. And I know what You mean, most of the 240s down here have either been pretty trashed or HIGH priced.

you're taking a risk buying out of state, especially without emission testing. You can always tune it up, and there is an additive out there to help you pass smog testing. SHouldn't be a big deal, you should be more worried about the overall shape/condition of the car.

i don't know if it makes a difference or not, but i know that, according to the FSM, the chassis code will indicate whether or not the vehicle was intended for use in California (and Canada, too). hey JynX and Doc, u both have copies of the FSM, right? i got it at home (i'm at work now ) so if one of u can look that up, that would be cool. if not, i'll check it real quick when i get home this afternoon.

hey JynX, that's ok. it think it was in the basic info or regular maintenance section. the part where the break down the chassis codes. like there's one for LHD ("L"), one for auto or manual tranny, etc. if no one puts it up, i'll have it in about 2-3hrs.

The last letter of the VIN number, if its a V its for cali(cali spec). If its a U its a non-cali car.
