Hi. I searched this, but didn't find the answer im looking for. On a 96 240 se, is there a way to bypass the governor without unplugging everything. Like maybe a new ecu or something.

Thanks for all the help guys

What the hell are you talking about? You don't have a Briggs and Straton 5hp under the hood of your car.

Are you meaning the rev limiter? Why would you want to do this anyways? If you are wanting to do crazy **** like this to your car, please go to the For Sale section and post your car in there. Sell it to someone who can take care of the thing, instead of screwing with something you obviously have no clue about.

excuse me, but if you have never wanted to go over 120 mph and over 5000 rpm in your car, then im sorry but your advice is worthless to me. If anyone has any useful information on this please tell me and leave the nutless pansy comments to yourself.

Thank you, Come again

edit: by the way " unplugging everything" refers to a thread i found on bypassing the plugs on ur trans that tell ur computer how fast ur going, and what rpm ur at in 5th.

-- and im pretty sure the governor is what stops you from going over a certain speed.... if it is called something else please correct me

im pretty sure 240s dont have governeors, dont quote me on this though. I think they are rev limiters. And there is no way to bypass it without it not showing speed.

just rev limiters... in 4th and 5th gear.. there's sensors you can unplug and wires to clip.. but you won't have a speedo liek they said. ... why would you go over 120mph? lol.. just asking.. i've never taken mine over 94mph, and that was on a freeway that everyone was doing 90+

wait a second, you're in lewiston too? your car white, with exhaust? or did you buy the one that was for sale by hollywood video?

I don't have the need to go over even 100mph in my 240. If I want to go that fast, I'll just get into either one of my mustangs and mash the gas.

So what happens at 120? Fuel cutout and engine shutdown? If thats what it is, there is a simple and easy fix for that. Just take that code out of the computer. Have fixed many dodge trucks and a few Chevy cars doing that. Or just have a flipchip made.

So is there a way to do it without pulling and cutting wires or not. Can't i just get a new aftermarket ecu or something??...... I wont go in and start hacking wires, thats just not smart.... plus i want my tach and speed to work.

Too bad, if you want to bypass it youre going to have to either cut some wires or unplug stuff. And your speedo wont work, not sure about tach though.

IMO, bypassing the reev limiter is just stupid

so what ur saying is there is no aftermarket ecu i can put in that will make this not happen?........ it must be in the computer to make it cut out like that......

does anyone know for sure if there is a chip or anything i can put in that makes it so nothing cuts out...... its not mechanical, its electronic, so there must be a way

If that is all that it is, within the computer. You should be able to tap into the computer with a laptop, pull the programming and change the code. Or have a piggyback chip burnt that will bypass this issue.

I am still new to the 240's, but have done this on other cars (EEC-IV, and ODB-II systems on Mustangs).

A flip chip sounds like the best idea to me for this issue.
