H4 conversion

Ok, consider me an idiot and put it in a very simple terms . What is the H4 conversion for S13 headlights? How is it done? Why is it done?

It's not so much a conversion, as you just buy new headlights. Basically you do it beacause H4 ECE headlights are brighter and have a much better beam pattern than the usual DOT lights you can buy at the parts store.

Sooooo, I can buy the usual DOT lights at the parts store, or were you talking about the H4? Where would I find the new housing? What does DOT stand for?

Ok let me rephrase it. The lights you can buy at the store are basically what in you're car now Department of Transportation (DOT) approved lights. H4 headlights are usually imported from Europe and are ECE (basically the European version of DOT) approved so they conform to different possibly stricter rules and are not legal for use in the US. But they will give more light and a better beam pattern. Also unlike the US sealed beam lights you can change the bulbs, instead of needing to replace the whole housing when the bulb burns out.

Silverstars are not as good as H4's...my opinion. I had them for a while until I bought the Sugo H4's and I've been in love ever since!
