Help me my 240 buddies!!

Hello my fellow 240 buddies.
I was wondering if you can pass the smog test with the SR20DET engine. Some guy said you can pass it with a "3 way cat converter"? Not sure... Some people said you can pass it but it won't pass the "visual" test.
So my questions are can you pass smog in California(I live in CA) with a SR20DET? And if it does pass, it is legal to have it in the car?
I don't like the KA engine I really want the SR20 but only if its legal. So I need a straightfoward answer.

Also not sure if it was this forum but I read that you can convert the 240sx automatic seatbelts on the hatchy into manual belts using S14 seatbelts. Is this true? I haven't seen any pictures of a 240 hatchy with manual belts. Some people said that the Canada's version has manual belts but I am not sure if its this true. So does anyone know about this? And has anyone done this before if it can be done at all? I need to know cause I don't like automatic belts. If I can't do it then I'll just go straight to the 1998 240.

I need these questions answered for me ASAP so I know what to buy cause I will need a car for going to school and back and my brother will be needing a car too.

Thanks a lot dudes...

Nope, you cannot pass smog at all! Espically in cali, cali is the car hell of the US. ANY JDM engine will not pass smog and is illegal to have in your car.

Yes u can swap S14 seatbelts. And yea canadian 240s do have manual bellts

sorry hyjynx.. but it is legal to have a jdm spec engine in your ride.. its a little fuzzy but.. i believe 'k. watanabe' sells japan spec motors that are street legal.. and if you do have an SR.. bring it to a referee.. have them pass it off as legal.. well.. thats what my friend told me to do if i upgrade on parts for my car..

if you got some extra flow.. you can find places to get your smog done.. my mom's bf is a mechanic.. and he knows of one of these places.. it'll cost you tho.. it's in the 310 area.. if you're interested.. as for the seat belts.. i know a guy that changed his out to the s14 belts.. ;D

I checked out 'k. watanabe' site...said nothing about street legal engines. Actually let me rephrase what i said, if the engine wasnt sold in the US spec car, then it is illegal to swap it. Once again, this is from what i know and might not be true

Uh.. does anyone have pictures of a 240sx hatchy with the manual belts? I want to have an idea of how it looks like. Does anyone know of a webpage where they show you step by step on how to do it? What do I need in order to do the swap(including tools)?
