umm...the TPS is the throttle position sensor, now, what that has to do with rpms idk, the only thing i can think of is that your rev limiter got fooked oop...other than that, ask the person who told you about the TPS adjustment to tell you what he means to do, and how to do it...

Has anyone messed with your tachometer needle? This is probably not the problem, but it might be something to check on.
Sometimes when people mess with the needles (to install different gauge faces, etc.) they remove them wrong and when they replace them, the needle doesn't attach itself correctly on the metal pin. The result is that your tach needle will move slower than it should be.
I've seen this happen to a few cars; after their Indiglo installation their needles were all out of wack. My original tach had a "slow needle" when I bought the car - which was confirmed when I swapped the original tach with an "untouched" stock tach from a friend's 97. This was all done before I eventually switched to different faces, but all the gauges have been recalibrated and are working perfect.
If you check your TPS and it's ok, and you know someone with the same model 240, try it. It only takes 8 screws (per car) and about 20 minutes. Or heck just swap the whole cluster maybe.

Replacing the TPS is relatively easy and not that expensive. You can pick up a new one at any Autozone or places like that. Once you get it installed though, then the trick is adjusting it correctly. There are some instructions on www.********** but the best I've ever done is trial and error.....but mostly error I think.
Good luck,
Matt
