What about the smog? Maybe be a little more specific.

California has the strictest requirements for emissions control in the US. Every couple of years you have to have your vehicle checked for compliance. The exhaust gases are sampled and if the hydrocarbon, NOx or CO emissions are too high, it fails. It will also fail if the check engine light is on. It will also not pass smog test with an engine swap. The only way to get by with a swapped engine is to swap it back right before the test or to find a shady test technician that you can pay off to pass smog.

As for performance upgrades, any component that isn't certified by the California Air Resources Board is illegal. Basically everything that says "For Off-Road Use Only" is illegal on California streets. Anything that is "50-state legal" is legal in California. The police have authority to pull you over if they suspect your vehicle is illegally modified. If they catch you with illegal mods they can write you a ticket or make you have your car inspected by a referee.

Good luck with that... Also California is really strict about that. They actually take our their measuring meter to see how low your car is, and if its to low, they're write you up a ticket. I know cause i saw it on MTV lol. Also they'll pull you over just about anything even for the stupidest reasons like not having a front lisence plate, uh oh!! Sucks, I know but at least you have fun before you get caught

Thank god I live in CT where cops could really give a rats *** about it unless they are bored. But most let you off easily, until you enter the "streets" and have a good chance of getting caught.

Yea cops go over board with this crap and it pisses just about anyone off! Grrr.... Go figure!

yes you got it, just the shady "smog people" will cost you a bit so i think the swap back is a little harder but a better idea
