how can i make the s13 well balanced for road racing?

i want my car to be more balanced for road racing but i dont know how to make it that way. my car understeers toooooo much. should i put more weight in the trunk or take away weight from the middle like the seats? sorry if im wrong.

what kind of suspension setup do u have? what tires and wheel combo are u running?

jspaeth 12-24-2006 01:40 PM

When I bought a stiff ass beefy aftermarket rear sway bar, my car's handling became dramatically closer to perfectly neutral

jspaeth 12-24-2006 01:44 PM

Coilovers, sway bars, etc...

The main goal is to keep as much rubber on the road as possible.
You want as wide tires as is reasonable, and you want the tires to stay as flat to the ground as possible at all times....

This means aftermarket pillowball mount suspension pieces

Tie rods, toe rods, traction rods, rear camber arms, tension rods, sway bars, etc.

Other than that, there is only so much you can do to shift weight around from front to rear

If you car understeers that means you need more wieght distrabution up front, not to the rear.

i got leibach sportline owering springs, inner and outter tie rods, tires 215/45-17, tanabe sway bars and some unknown brand strut bars.

Zenki_SliderS14 12-24-2006 06:36 PM

i say toss, Or sell, the springs and get a decent coilover set. Adjustabilty makes tuning a road racing car very easy and comfortable for your own preferences

+1

also a rear adjustible sway bar is the way to go for the understeer issue. or slap on the oem sway bar for the front and keep the tanabes on the rear.

motegineon 12-24-2006 08:47 PM

definately coilovers with some dampening and camber adjustment...up the stickyness of the tires in the front while leaving the rears the same..lose front sway bar...any of that would help, also adjustments such as camber, caster, and toe can all play a major roll

MS!3 12-24-2006 08:50 PM

yea coils will make a big difference with your set up. but your probably always gonna get alittle understeer because your s13, lol why do i love mine so much, its an understeer beast!

motegineon 12-24-2006 08:58 PM

it just takes the right setup, my understeer has decreased about %70 i believe, still workin on the other 30..

jspaeth 12-24-2006 10:48 PM

I agree.....like DRIFTFREEK, I have Tanabe sways....

The thing is, the increase in the front sway over OEM is only like 2mm, but the rear sway is like 2x as thick as OEM

For me, that was the mod that made my car go from understeer to almost neutral...

driftfreek 12-25-2006 11:43 PM

jspaeth!! so u have tanabes and u have almost no understeer??? wtf!! how, cuz when i autox i understeer like a mofo!! i thought i need better tires which i do, but i thought i need something else. i really need to fix my understeer cuz this guy with a moded 03' mitsubishi eclipse(fwd, 250hp+) wants to race me( my ka has 170hp) in the downhill and the only way to beat him would be if i take the corners much faster than him since there arent many straights... so please guys help me!!!i wanna beat him

oh is there a way to adjust my tanabe sway bars???
