How Can I tell if my ECU is Auto or Manual?

The problem is, I have 2 ECU's: one's auto and one's manual.

From my understanding, it'll work in my manuel car but the auto will pop the check engine light.

The thing is, I think something's up with my engine and it's popping up for both ECUs so now I don't know which one is which.

Thanks for your help in advance

an auto ecu wont trigger a check engine light. if you have a light on, somethings wrong.

An auto ECU will work just fine in a 5 speed. Its only a problem when you put the 5 speed ECU in the automatic. If both ECUs are making the check engine light come on I'd say the problem is something else. Run the codes on them.

incorrect.

you can tell which is which by the large 2 digit code on the side of the ecu case. 28 is a twin cam KA 5 speed... pretty sure 29 is twin cam auto
