Hump In Floorpan?

Hump In Floorpan?
I was reading up on SCC's Project Nissan Silvia and remembered that the floor of the 240SX is shaped funny, with an intrusion into the cabin under the driver's right knee. I was wondering what was under said hump to make it so large. Thanks for any answers.

If that's where the cat is, can't I just relocate the cat a little further back so I can fit "normal" seats in? I don't want JIC seats, and I don't want to spend a fortune on R32 seats that weigh a ton. I want to put a Sparco Evo in there, but apparently it'd be impossible according to SCC.
P.S.- Yes, it does sound like it would be a blast to drive.

The thing with the hump, is that if you have sliding brackets, it will be too high. I wabt to take soem old stock seats, and see it i can use the stock brackets, and bolt it to the sides of a bucket, making a seat that is solid mountedd, but sitting on the floor. I might try that someday...

that's actually probably the most popular seat upgrade for the 240.
you're big companies are gonna have custom made brackets for the 240 and similar nissans. corbeau makes one, i believe sparco does as well

You don't need the JIC seats. You need low down rails.

My '90 is going to eventually be built to NASA and SCCA club specs and I would really like to find out the best way to get my butt as low as possible given the cat hump. Alternatively I will be looking into cutting out the hump and welding a plate in since it will be a catless system.
Any response on getting solid backed competition seats as low as possible will be greatly appreciated - explanations and pix doubly so.
