I just found out my 1996 240sx Isnt SE

Is it a big deal that it isnt SE? I mean it was labeled as se in my title when i purchased it but now that i checked the VIN decoder and compared my car to the se model i just realized i have a base model....

My car has a sunroof and a abs system no vlsd no power lock or cruise control...

I was wondering if i got a good deal for paying 4000$ for it. It had 100,000+ Mileage and the interior was in good condition only one small crack in the passenger door beside the door ****.

And the exterior was alright it had 4 small dings, 2 in the left front side fender, and one on the driver door and another on the
roof of the car . it also had small rock scratches on the hood and it seemed the orignal owner hit some one slightly because the left side of the fender has a small hole in it below the head lights and a small bump..

and thats only the mainly bad damage to the body otherwise there was some scratches around the body.

I wanted a 240sx for along time and im happy i got it but i was wondering if there was another chance i run into a 240sx SE should i sell mine and get that one instead.

Also if that chance dosnt happen i was wondering if it was possible to install like the power locks, the cruising control, the foglights, and the vlsd.

I believe if you have abs then you have the vlsd, it was sold together as an option.... unless the car is in Canada

I think they are seperate items it is included in package for the SE though but for coupe only options are ABS.

http://www.socal**********/faq/1996.html

I used that to find the options to my model.

The major is the lugs are 4lug base and 5lug se. (5lug has wider selection)I've seen many combos..abs+vlsd, abs alone rare, vlsd alone..rare except in canada. I had a 95 no-abs but with vlsd. Checking to see vlsd, jack up rear just slightly off ground by differential then spin tire.IF they sping the same way vlsd opposite open differential.

Oh so if i have the abs+vlsd combo that might mean i might have the 5lug se or i just might have the combo and still have the 4lug, ....So by jacking the rear, then i spin one of the wheels on the rear and if they continuously spin in the direction i spuned it it has vlsd and if i spin it and then it jerks to the opposite direction its an open diff.? Sorry just making sure thats what you meant.

But if my car has 4lug base and not a 5lug se can i convert my car to a 5lug?

Hmm..
But basically your wheel rim/tire..the bolts that hold in place there you either have 4 or 5. You can just look at the wheel and count.
4 lugs means you have a base , 5 lugs means you have a se.

Yeah jacking up rear, spin 1 wheel foward if the other wheel spins forward also=vlsd

(EXCEPT in Canada those guys lable 4lug rims SE models)

Ok i have 4lugs so mine is base model, But your saying thats the only Major difference between a 240sx base and an SE is the lugs for the wheels? And if i wanted to use this as my project car i could and it be just as good as if i had a SE minus the cruise, power lock, vlsd... but i can get those installed right?

And could i get a 5lug set for my basemodel?

Thanks for all the replys thus far thanks! its really helping me out alot!

And i got my 240sx from Texas.

hmm odd. My 95 has ABS, VLSD and 4 lug. IT was titled as an SE. I already changed to 5 lug so I could care less if its SE or not. At least I have VLSD, hehe

actually, if it's a base model, it's better to mod, since you dont have as much **** to worry about..

well, in stock form it sucks (i have a base S13), but better to mod since it's lighter..

wow. this is ODD. i bought my s14. the title says base, ran vin thru 2 insurance agencies more than 1x each, and came out se model. i have 4 lugs, no moonroof, no powerlock, no abs, no lip, no foglights, no lsd, no spoiler. pertty much base modeld. but why would it say se in my VIN? not that i mind cause i have pretty much all things you would want from se iin my base except its still 4lugs.
