KA engine is in bad shape, opinions?

Hey guys what's up- Lately I've been having some probs' with my 90' 240 and after I came from the auto shop today out here in sacramento for the 3rd time, they finally realized that I have a bad cylinder, and I need some head work- The guys are charging around $700 bucks to get that work done.

Im thinking for that price, I could just get another KA with lower mileage (mine has 196+ miles). Do u guys think I should get my engine serviced, or just get another used KA engine from someone. My tranny is fine, so maybe just the engine, but Im not sure. I just need some opinions from you guys, thanks!

yep'

~Yeah, I have a bad cylinder, and head- I'm sending my car in to the shop tomorrow to get a head job and work on the pistons.

~All I care about right now for the time being is just having a strong, reliable ka, so I can get around, and get to things like suspension setups, and brake upgrades. After this, I'll consider maybe turboing my ka, since it'll have better internals than before, so I can have someting fun to play with, until I get enough money saved for a higher displacement engine swap, which will be a long time from now.

~By this time, my experience & ability will have improved, and I'll have more an idea of what I really want to accomplish along the way.

~What do you guys think?

Do you have enough # to build up your ka a little bit for boost? Or maybe a higher comp na engine? Just a thought since the engine is going to be apart.

definetley buy a newer engine, for $700.00 you can get a newer one 4 sure.

and ^ that engine has to many miles to turbo it, i think he should just get a newer KA.

hmm

Yeah, the thought of getting a new engine had crossed my mind, but I found a real cheap place to get an engine rebuild which would cost less than most KA's I've seen.

Also, I'd like to have a turbo KA24e, as I really don't see too many of those around in my area. I'm still curious as to whether it would be reasonable to turbo my ka after I get my car back from its rebuild.

Some say get a new engine, but I really dont see any of the ka24E's that I'm looking for, so ionno, we'll see what happens

Okay, I just came back from this engine shop where I'm supposed to get engine work done, and just now they're telling me that a cylinder in the engine is really worn, and that my engine is beyond repair. They offered to order a motor from japan which would cost me $1650 for everything, and I'm assuming they just mean another KA series engine. But hell, for that price, I'd be pretty close to buying a CA or SR engine.

But being the broke college student that I am, I'd suffice with just another stock KA engine (for cheap) until I can save comfortably for an engine that I really want. Right now, all I care about is being MOBILE. And it really pisses me off, cause like I just got my '90 s13 going a few weeks ago, and now it's back to square one. It's kinda depressing.

Anyways, does anyone here have a spare KA that they'd be willing to part with? I have about $250 bucks to my name right now, and I'll probably have to borrow or get a loan to get my car going again. My email is rek916z@hotmail.com

I don't care about anything in particular, I just need a regular ol' KA engine, so I can get to work, thanks.

What exactly is wrong with the car loud knock, burning oil. What were the compression numbers? Finding a ka24e shouldn't be a problem there and install is straightforward compared to going dohc. I'll ask a friend of mine if he knows of anyone. But I would check the other msg boards like nico more people are there. Hope it works out for you.
