they are trying to rip your head off! The most they can charge is probably $80 for an hours worth of labor. I dont mean to be mean but since your grandfather is paying for it, why dont you just let the dealer do it. After they do the repairs explane how you could have did it for less than $200 and tell them to stay out your bidness.

my first experiance with rip off meckaniks was in high school.
i had and '87 dodge lancer. it needed new shocks and struts. these guys wanted $600 to do it. i was like ok struts are like $70 each and the shock $40.

i'm no math wize but it's not hard to figuer out that your better off doing the job yourself for less. plus you can buy the proper tools with the money you saved.

i do all my own work because it saves me money and i know what it was that was actualy done. also in high school i had no idea how to work on cars. there are still alot of things i dodn't know. but what i do know is that i've managed to stay away from the mechanics for about 9 years now.

4 hours, are you kidding me? i can do the job in two hours, and that's if i take my time.

i don't know where you get your hourly shop fees from but some friends of mine that are mechanics charge from $50hr-$75hr.

at least your right about not getting ripped off because i had a friend do the job for me for $50 plus parts.

well i work at a dealer they charge $105 an hour but mechnanics get paid flat rate dosnt matter id he does it in more or less time then they charge they still get paid the same. so yea 4 hours is right. for example i get paid 6 hours for replacing a warranty tranny i do it in 2 and a half hours but i still get paid 6 hours lol and if its customer pay they charge more lol

yes i know how it works.

but my friends don't work for a dealership, they have their own shop. and while $105 hr is expected from a dealer. i would not consider it to be a good deal when joe shmoe wants $600 to replace $220 worth of parts and be done in 3 hours.

i'd recoment that you check for power at the fuse panel. even if the fuse was replaced there might not be any power for it to allow to flow.
