Angry My radiator is boiling!

I just replaced my timing chain and everything was working fine except that my radiator was leaking - because of the faulty screws that hold the thermostant. I was able to stop the leaking but now when I drive for about 15 minutes my radiator starts BOILING - I "accidently" took the radiator cap out when it was still extremely hot and water poured out like a water fountain. I am worried that my engine will overheat (although the temperature needle stays in the middle the whole time)

What should I replace?

1) radiator cap?
2) radiator?
3 water pump?
4 thermostant?

Id appriciate any help,

Anttoni

yeah thats what happend to my friend AE-86 over the weekend. and i am am fairly certain you shouldnt push your car at all when there is only water in the radiator. they have radiator fluid and thats what your sopposed to use. when we drained his radiator it was some greeen wierd smelling liquid so it couldnt have been water. we only had water in there over the weekend because we just swapped the engine and were just trying to get it i started.

where was your car leaking? I just replaced all my belts also and my radiator is leaking right below the neck that holds the radiator cap. IDK if its leaking there yet there is fuild there so maybe the cap is leaking. When I replaced everything I also put on a nismo radiator cap so idk if thats the problem

I am gonna need some help fixing this one.

Radiator can leak for several reason.

1) theres a hole in your radiator
2) drainage pipe is leaking
3) your thermostant is faulty (in my case it was just the screws that hold the thermostant that needed to be changes)

So fill your radiator with water and check where the water is coming out.

I do realize that - but if your radi leaks, whats the point of filling it up with radiator fluid if it is going to leak out in 30 min.

if the leak is that bad then you SHOULDN'T be driving the car

you are going to seize the engine, and you may have already caused horriable damage to the car

FIX THE LEAK!!!! dont drive it unless its to an auto repair shop

you WILL kill your engine

it seems to be comming out of the neck that holds the radiator cap. at the base of that neck is the pool of fluid. Do you think the cap itself is leaking? or could there be some fluid shooting out of the neck itself? It also might be the hose that goes right out of the neck of the radiator. IDK exactly where that hose goes but it seems to be leaking also. I will look around tonight.

yes the cap could be leaking. Are you sure the cap is on good? You need to push down and turn so it locks close. If you are sure I would just get a new cap first. Its $2 over a $150 for a new radiator. Also if you took the radiator cap off while the car was running or the engine was hot it will boil over but it won't hurt it. AS far as water goes well I wouldn't recommend it but if you are going to do that then you need to check it everytime you go to start the car. Make sure you always have water with you and watch your temp gauge very carefully. You got to figure that **** runs at 235 degrees F (I think thats right?) so if it is just water it will boil and evaporate quickly.

Is this radiator fluid you speak of... coolant/water? If it's leaking anywhere, replace the radiator. A crack in a radiator will get bigger.

yeah **** I might have to end up putting in a new radiator. I took of my higher pressure radiator cap and put back on the stock one. Hopefully this will help for a while at least.
