Tip has almost nothing to do with sound...in fact the larger it is the fartier it will sound (think now...civics with the tunnel sized tip=rice fart). The entire exhuast itself is what gives you the sound.

So would it be alrite to make a custum header to a 3 in collector and 3 in all the way back and just put a generic resonator in it? thats wat i did with my mazda and it ran a whole lot better than with the tiny 1 3/4 in stock pipes

 

just get a dc sports header off ebay for like $150. i think the buddy club is the best sounding exh on n/a ka

 

l also wanted a very low, mellow sound that didn't sound "farty" or "too loud"

Greddy Evo2 or EvoTT are good for that....not TOO expensive, but not cheap either. I really like the sound of mine.
