could you help me identify what this thing is? Seems like the fluid is running low and I'm not too sure if thats the transmission fluid.

yep power steering... read the container, you might actually have to CLEAN it ... i know imagine that, to read it.

Thats exactly what it looks like in my car, however its on the opposite side of the engine. '89 fastback.

lol transmission? :P best way to figure stuff like that out is to follow the hoses.
