It should just plug into the wiring harness. Check the line for a "pulse". I remember my Neon had an aftermarket tach that didn't work . . .I read the Haynes manual and found the proper line to hook it too . . .bam.
If the original connections don't work, find that line (Hit up Autozone, Advance or O'Reilly for the manual if necessary) and get it going.

the signal wire from the aftermarket tach goes to the Positive wire on the Ignition coil. I made this from the FSM....... the red line is pointing to the location of the wire you must tap into. Its been years since I hooked one up... so you will have to test with a volt meter or test light to see which wire carries the juice.
