Need opinion on possible S13 purchase

Hello all. Anyways, I found an S13 near me and went to check it out today. It's a 91 SE Coupe w/56,880 miles on the odometer. The seller is the original owner and has babied this thing since ownership. Always garaged, thus the low miles. The exterior is almost mint. The paint is factory and looks new. The engine is strong, HUD works, all electrical great..etc..

Now the bad.. it's an Automatic. Which is okay with me since it will be my daily driver...for now He was a smoker and notice some burn marks near the ashtray and on seat. A few interior defects, that maybe a good detail could fix. Smell of smoke kind of was turn off. Otherwise the car is in great condition.

The guy really has a sentimental attachment to this car and understandable. So I asked what he wants...He was wanting around $4500!!! KBB/NADA/Edmunds range this car at $3500 for and "excellent" condition car. Would it be wise to offer more than these car guides? I really like the car and even offered $4k cash, but he had to think about it overnight. Is this too much?

Yeah. I guess I just like the fact it has really low miles and taken care off. I did offer $3k at first and my last was $4k. I guess I'll try to remain patient.

3k the max, thats really asking too much for an old carm which has smoke scent in the seats, thats hard to get out, but thats neat how its low miles and has a HUD, but like the others had said before, you live down in so cal, there are plenty else where

Why is he selling it? If the reason is good I'd go 3.5k

He is moving out of state and need something bigger to haul stuff in. He will use the amount for a down payment. THe dealer was offering $2k for his car as a trade-in. The guy is an older gentleman and you can tell he really is attached to this car. I gave him my number in case he changes his mind. But will probably tell him, I'v reconsidered on my offer. I know there are a bunch of 240SX's here in So.Cal, but most are asking way too much, has too many miles and way too modified. I am not looking for something to do a motor swap or anything like that. This is going to be a 3rd car and for daily driving purposes.

The guy just called and said he will take my offer. I told him I will get back to him because I've been thinking about it hard. Most here think it's too much, but they have not seen it in person. Some pictures here:

I told him I will get back to him later. What to do???

hmmm...4k is alot of cash for an s13. Maybe a good deal for a s14. Even though that 240 is preety damn clean! (i don't know about the steering wheel?) everythign else is great. Yea if you live in so-cal awww man...I'd keep looking cause i know theres alot of 240's out there but to find one thats not moded at all like bone stock 5 speed with low miles...good luck!

Dante
p.s. I live up here in fresno and not many 240's up here.

I know. That's why I was second guessing my offer. I guess that's why he called me back thinking he had a very good offer. I've been searching here in So.Cal and I guess these 240's are like the next Civic. Everyone wants to modify them. Maybe I should look at something else since finding an unmodified, low mileage S13/S14 is rare.

Yeah I guess you are right. If you are looking for modified 240sx, this is the place to be. Unfortunately for me, I am not. That's why this one appealed to me. I may still offer $3500 max and see what he says.

Yeah I know. But I called him up last night and told him the most I can do is $3500. He said that he will call another prospective buyer back and see if he still wants it. I have not heard from him since.

It looks really nice except for the steering wheel! Does it really have about 50000 miles? If so, that old man holds the steering wheel really hard while driving . Well, $3500 is a reasonal but please notice that this car is over 13 years, and u don't want to spend too much on it! Just my thought!
