Nismo thermostat question?!?

I have been researching the Nismo thermostat through ebay and notices it says that it opens at 62 degrees Celsius/169 degrees F, which in actuality 62 deg celsius is 143 degrees F. So then I checked Nismo and they stated the same wrong temperature conversion. Anybody out there has a Nismo thermostat? and if they do then what does it say on the thermostat itself? If it does say it opens at 169 degrees F than I might as well just get the low temp from autozone which opens up at 169 for only $12.

i don't have that stat but what i can tell you is that a number of people on another forum have complaints about it. apparently on a newly built engine the stat opens too soon and never really allows the engine to reach normal operating temp and inter the engine never really seals properly.

or so they say.

I too have heard it isn't good for non-race engines since it won't let the motor heat up

Currently I am running no thermostat because of the oem thermo was making my engine overheat. I just need a low temp thermostat so I can smog it and it won't overheat. I have no issues with it reaching normal operating temperature without the thermostat. Dang popups, I just got like 5 popups during this reply. I am running dsl w/mozilla firefox. My popup blocker is on but I still get hella pop ups....any suggestions on that also.

my car randomly overheats at times. koyo rad, new pump, new thermo, new hoses, 190 compression across the board, no air in the system. KA cooling just sucks.

I think the thermostat I bought from autozone was defective because it didnt open up untill it got hella hot, I didnt see the water move untill the temp got almost up to overheat. Then all of the sudden when I was driving, my heater wasn't blowing hot anymore and then it overheated, it was like the thermostat got stuck closed. Any other suggestions. Ohh yeah I just put a 97' KA with only 25,000 miles into my car (**** pulls hella hard).

Well the FSM shows a good way to test a thermostat... put it on the stove in a pan filled with water with something to check temp. I watched my OEM nissan one open at 170F on the dot. My advanced auto one failed after about 10k miles.

Add an oil cooler with a fan, problem solved. I used the fog light switch on the column and mounted it down in the front of the car on the passenger side. Even in hot summer days in stop and go traffic after coming to a halt from 75mph, the car runs very cool.

Good luck
