no dash lights
no dash lights
ok, so i take apart my whole dash to get out the digital speedo module. I'm gonna buy a new one from nissan. I put the dash all back together, testing buttons as I go and everything is fine. I just go out now, while it's dark, and no dash lights turn on with the headlights. The turn signal lights work, all the warning lights work but no dash illumination. Checked all the fuses, everyone is fine. What could be the problem. I left the speedo module out, could that be intterupting the circuit or something??? Please give me some opinions on what it could be!!!!

ooo, hey congrats me too, were both in the same boat, except i heard if u remove this compacitor on the back oh the HUD that would fix the hud. As for the rest of the lights, perhaps a loose wire, if all the fuses are cool double ch eck and make sure they're in snug, if that didn't help...like i said we're in the same boat
yeah, sucks don't it. My hud is fine it's definately the speedo. But i'm goin to get a new one from Nissan. They wanted $238 and my neighbor works there so i can get it at cost. As for the dash lights i think it might be my dimmer switch, I think maybe when i hooked it back up that is blew it out. When i put the new speedo in i'll try everything before i put the cluster back in. Hopefully the lights will work again.Because it's weird that the turn signals lights work and so do all the other warning lights. I dunno. I'll figure it out I guess. ................Thanks
And tonite i just realized my cruise control don't work. The one button light goes on but when i push the steering wheel button to set the speed nothing happens. Damn, all this just from taking out the cluster???
you removed the electronic speedo and put the cluster back in??? when the digital speedo went out originally did you still have dash lights??? meaning did everything that is wrong now work with the digital speedo in the car??? if that is the case then there might be an open circuit... when i got mine the speedo did not work so i dont know if this will correct itself once the speedo is back in the car...
and there is a thread that deals with replacing the cap on the back of the speedo to get it back up and running... i tried this fix and my hud worked for a little while... then would go on and off when i hit the dash or bumped the cluster... here is the information on fixing the cap on the back of the speedo unit...

the dash lights were fine before i took out the speedo. So that's what i'm hoping that when i put the new speedo back in the dash lights will work again. Oh, and that link you had didn't work.
Ok, so I found that my dimmer switch does work. And I probably don't have cruise control because there is no speedo hooked up in the dash. Still can't figure out why there are no dash lights besides the turn signals and warning lights. Ordered a new speedo, came in today but the dumb a$$ parts guy at Nissan ordered the analog even though I told him 20 times it was the digital. So now I won't get it tilll Monday. Guess I'll figure out the light problem when I install the new speedo.
My HUD only works once in a while. So usually driving in the "dark".
Tachometer, turn signal, and warning lights all work. Only when the HUD works will the dash illuminate and the odometer will start working.
Do you think it's the capacitor? I've been lurking the forums to get as much info before I start pulling things apart.

i found out that it was a capacitor on one of the circuit boards on the speedo module in the dash. I tried to fix it by soldering a new capacitor but i'm not that great with a solder iron, plus it is a really small intricate area. I just picked up my new speedo today, so hopefully Sunday I'll put it in. You might have answered my question. If your dash lights only work when your speedo does, than maybe that's why my lights don't work, becuase there is no speedo in the cluster right now. Guess i'll find out on Sunday or Monday when I put the speedo back in. If i were you, i would just buy a new speedo, unless you are good at soldering. This is a link to a page where a guy tells you in much detail how to find out if it is the capacitor and tells you step by step on how to fix it if you want to try. http://multi-index.myonlinesite.com/...0sx_speedo.htm

Thanks for the info. I'm going to attempt the soldering. I have the same symptom as the person who wrote the informative page in that the HUD will start working after about 20-30 of driving.
