Angry Problem with the reverse lights

Does anyone know where the sensor for the reverse lights is located? My reverse lights are coming on in 5th gear instead of reverse and I got one person telling me the sensor is in the gear box and another telling me its on the underside of the tranny. If anyone has any input or pictures of this to help me out with it I would appreciate all the help I can get. I have a planned to fix it tomorrow on my day off. If you do know something please be detailed, I don't want to ***k something up.

I don't think it's in the gearbox...

check the FSM, there is probably a wiring diagram. In most cars, it's near the driver kick panel somewhere in that mess of wires. When you think about it, the wires that run back there DO go to your tail lights and all, so I'd check there. You might be able to just splice whichever wire it is into the right spot.

Did you JUST buy your car from someone? Do you know if they had an alarm or anything installed previously? You also might be able to check www.the12volt.com <--- Thats an installer's best friend. Check the forums too, if you can find it in the database. Good luck.

Dude, you are awesome! Where in the heck did you find that, I looked all over for that online before asking this question because I didn't wan to sound like a moron. And yeah, I did just buy it. Just took a while before anyone told me about the whole problem. Guess I got to pay more attention to these things more often...haha. Thanks guys.

Now I know that the sensor plugs are switched, but there stands a new problem. When I went down there to switch them back the reverse sensor switch had nothing on it and the top sensor switch had the reverse wires to it. There is a loose plug hanging down there and I know it has to be the one that goes to the top gear sensor. Now, if I take the one off the top gear switch and put it on the correct one, will it have a negative effect on how the car will run in fifth gear not having anything there? And, not only that, but it looks as if the wire that is there was just twisted on the connector. Is that a problem if I do the same thing to where it needs to go? I know a lot of questions but this is the first problem I have ever had like this and I don't have the FSM. If it's not too many pages I would like it if you would e-mail it to me and I could print it out S13. I appreciate all the input guys. Talk to you all later.
