Questions about the SR20DET
I'm new to the 240sx. I haven't bought one yet because I wanted to do some research to ensure I buy what I want. So here's my dilema:
1.) So after reading up on the SR20DET, I have discovered it's the motor that I want to build up and swap (it's going to take a while). The problem is that it is not street legal, which has almost completely turned me away. However, I did see that someone in one of the older threads said that if a rebuilt/custom title is filed, and the vehicle passes several outlined tests, that the car can be completely street legal. Does anyone have any info on this? I'm in Austin, TX.
2.) What is the best method for sourcing out a clean motor from a reputable company?
Thanks a lot!

If you are in Austin... then it doesnt matter... they just have a safety inspection i believe... either way, it doesnt matter, just find a shop to hook you up. THe only title i could think of would be a kit car or (theres something else but i cant remember) thats just a sh*tload of money to waste... plus then your insurance will go way up, do the sr swap and find out the laws in you r state.
enjukuracing, phase2motortrend, heavythrottle, 240sxmotoring are all the best 240 sites

That's what I'm thinking. I want something that handles and is fast in a straight line. That's what brought me over to the 240. I looked at a new STi and it was really clean, but it's already complete and doesn't need much. With the 240 and the SR, the sky's the limit. That and my wallet of course.

I'm pretty sure Travis County has a smog check as part of their inspection, no? If that's the case, just have it inspected outside county lines. They don't check to make sure you live there or anything, all they want is proof of insurance. Man either way I don't know what you're talking about, if you can afford a new STi then you can afford to do anything you want to a 240. If you're going to do a swap the only way that I'm aware of is just buy a JDM front clip off eBay. As for how to determine if they're reputable or not, try to find a seller that isn't too far away so you can go check them out. Otherwise just look at feedback and such. Then again I'm new to 240s also so someone else should comment on this.

Lol that is completely off topic. From what I've read, the old 240sx came with the KA24E, which was SOHC. It also had only three valves per cylinder. Then after '90 they got the KA24DE, D for DOHC, which was also 16V. And since we're off topic already, apparently the KA24DE was made in Mexico?

dimensionxzero do you own a 240? if so sell it please to someone who is more deserving. if you don't want to sell it but just want to look a little more intelligent if you go to the engine swap section of this board the first sticky you come across is called "nissan engines" that tells you a lot. as for your question 89-90 ka24e sohc 91-98 ka24de dohc

Dude the only bad thing about building the 240 is how long it would take to save the money to buy all the parts and stuff. If I bought the STi, I would be broke every month but the car would be everything that I want.
