Just got my 96 se a month or two ago.

The heater is VERY weak. It barely warms anything. I live in so cal so i know that it's not cold weather causing it.


What could be causing my heat to barely get warm? It blows just fine, and the ac works perfectly.

Second. Could it POSSIBLY be anything in the "heater box" under the dash that is causing it? I have access to the entire unit for free, but i don't know if it would be worth paying the shipping if nothing in it will solve my problem.

ANy suggestions would be GREATLY appritiated.

you might want to check and make sure the slider for the cold to hot is functioning properly...my friend's crx had the same prob and whenever he wanted to switch from cold to hot he had to reach under the dash and there are metal rods that change the blower temp...not 100% sure it is the same on our cars, but wouldn't hurt to look

 

Yes, you're referring to the airmix door.

Did you do the usual checks first? (heater hoses, watercock)?

Watercock??? where that, and how do i check it?

 

valve-looking thing on the heater hose... there's a cable that is connected from the airmix motor to the watercock... if this binds, the airmix door won't move

 

if the cable binds, wouldnt the lever not move?

 

the cable is mechanical, but it's attached to an electric motor that controls the airmix door.

The lever will move because the HVAC controls are also electric, not mechanical.

 

oops, "connected to motor" didnt register when i read it. Any danger of burning the motor out because the cable binds?

 

I don't think so - it'll just try to move but it won't. I had that exact problem when I was diagnosing my "lack of heat" - the airmix door wasn't moving, so I disconnected the watercock cable from the motor lever and bam - airmix door fixed.

Instead of buying a new cable, I just leave the watercock set in the open position under the hood
