Really Noisey

How noisey are your cars? My 91 seems incredibly noisey. The engine noise seems very loud. I'm talking about the rushing sound of the engine. Are all the early 240's like that? It must be fan noise, should it be running all the time, it gets a lot louder as you accelerate. It's very irritating and I'm sure it wouldn't come from the factory that noisey.

drown it out with your exhast...lol

wikd240 06-12-2005 07:17 AM

check to see if your fan clutch is going bad... to test it the fan should turn with the motor off rather easy... and with the motor running you should be able to stop the fan... do not do this with your hand because if it is bad you will loose fingers... i would suggest turning the fan by hand to see if it moves freely... if it does then that is not the problem...

BlitzDriftGTR 06-12-2005 08:00 AM

:dunno: My sounds like a plane. Everytime I go faster on first gear the fan is so loud lol.

Nissan newguy 06-16-2005 05:24 PM

My fan has quite a bit of tension when I turn it. Bad?:dunno:
Should it spin almost free like it has little or no tension?

Biggamehit 06-16-2005 05:27 PM

like the guy said above. check ur fan, the rotation of ur fan gets faster as the rotational speed increases

os_carlover 06-22-2005 11:39 PM

fan

:D it is your fans clutch and lets leave it at that

Ferby86 05-25-2006 12:06 AM

dude i hope you're right. My car sounds like a truck is comming by. That damn fan is irritating. Would it be better to just take it out and put a different kind of fan in? Like an electric fan?

Sweet Web site Dude.. i think i might get my B&M short shifter from here.. unless anyone knows where to get it cheaper? :dunno:

g3bio 05-25-2006 10:23 AM

there are local for me and though the prices are high the product is good and they know what they are doing with s13's they own one if you check their site pushes 400 odd hp and 500 odd hp if tuned to it.

it might also be your alternator. Mine makes a sound like you were talking about, and fans aren't that loud where you can hear it on the highway or something, unless it is all kinds of messed up. anyways, take a long screwdriver and put it on the outside of the alternator while the engine is running, and then put your ear on the handle of the screwdriver. if you hear a grinding or it doesn't sound smooth, it is your alternator.

altima dual radiator fan acctually pulls more air through then those flex a lite fan for a lot more cheaper. freshalloy or zilvia has a long thread about this.

as for the truck motor acctually sounds like an airplane, its probably your clutch fan.

...dual flex-a-lites sound great, but theyre hella expensive from PDM. I was wondering, would i be able to get away with a good single fan? The duals are very pricey and pull a minimum of 20 amps.. and i know for a fact the stock alternator doesnt make 20 amps at idle, and factor in a big stereo and youre asking for a dead alternator.

nsn240 07-17-2006 09:43 PM

get the dual FAL's
Single fan works to LA Phantom, i just have the stock single electric on my koyo and i've never had any problems.
I cant here my motor much, mostly exhaust, turbo and bov haha
