lol, all you ahve to do is turn it counter-clockwise.
It should come off.

If it doesn't, give it some umph.
If your afraid your going to break the shifter, then take some vice-grips and hold the shifter from twisting while you unscrew the ***.

It should come off pretty easy though. Maybe someone thread-locked it.

nice momo *** :-D

I’m worried that I’m going to break it or mess up the transmission!

like i said, use some vice-grips to hold the shifter. (the metal pole under the ****)

And then yank the *** counter-clockwise until it comes loose.

thats the ONLY way it went on, and the ONLY way it will come off.

It is a threaded item, you can't mess it up by doing that.

Don't be a pansy, use some muscles. Making 4 posts about *****ing and whining aren't going to help.

I already helped you out, the ONLY way is to twist it.

Petition to close this thread-

Your going to have to twist it, I wrapped a towel around mine, took the excess towel and twisted it up a little and then took pliers to that and it came off.

Don't know if I really said that right, but take it for what its worth

Haha I had the same problem and flipped out about it here too... Those things are really difficult to get off. Your best bet is to do what Cape240 said... Really twist it, it should come off haha good luck

The one I had on my '96 was a ***** to get off, too. I just got frustrated and was like, "AHHHHH!!!!!!!1" and twisted it off.
