RHD conversion questions
hey guys whats up? I have a 1989 240 and im looking to do an RHD conversion. I know its real hard but i think i can handle it. I was just wondering if anyone here has done it and if so i was wondering if you had any input for me? Difficulty level?Prices?anything to look out for? thanks Jon
Yeah i was planning on buying a front clip i just want to know the exact procedure. I was told it had to either be cut at the firewall or your front clip? is this true or is there an easier way? Thanks alot
i have done quite a few rhd conversions... some were crap looking and some turned out almost factory... the differance was in how the conversion was done... if you just swap over the parts and cut new holes... it can turn out to look like a mess...
if you cut the firewall and replace it with the rhd firewall then it turns out hundreds times better... and if you take your time it can look like a factory rhd car...
the method i would suggest is to cut and replace the firewall... you have all of the mounting holes for things like brake and clutch cylinders... holes for the rhd heater box and ac lines... things like that... patiences in this area will give you the best outcome... when you find your clip i will give you any information i can that will help you get the project done in the cleanest way that i have found...

thanks alot wikd240! I have a couple questions tho. How hard is it to just cut the car at the fire wall? What state do you live in? and are you interested in giving me a hand with it if needed? Thanks Jon
i live in tn... and if you are close sure i dont mind helping...
as far as cutting the firewall... that is a lot more complex... what you are going to do is cut the firewall out of both cars... and weld the rhd one into your car... what this includes is stripping the whole interior and engine compartment of the car... no wires or anything that could burn left in the car... cut out the firewall about 2 inches from the edges all the way around... make sure you leave your stock vin plate intact... then cut out the rhd firewall about 3/4 of an inch larger than the one you cut out of your car... gives you room to work...get a flange tool and make a flange around the firewal in your car... then trim the rhd firewall to fit... pop rivit the rhd firewall into place and weld all the edges... put everything back together and you are rhd converted...

^^^ whut he said... i did my own welding... to have it welded i could not even guess at what it would cost if you had a shop do it... but here again if a shop did it you would have almost perfect results...
it all depends on what you are willing to pay and what you are willing to learn how to do...
