Right headlight question
Right headlight question
Hey, new guy here! Don't really have to much hands on skills with cars, but I just bought a 90 240sx, 5 spd. It seems the right headlight will not open, but the left will. So i bought a motor from a junkyard yesterday and installed it. For some reason the little swing arm with turn one direction, either "open" or "close". not really sure as I didnt attach it to the headlight, just plugged it up and grounded it. So I have a problem, it will only close, I think, so I am not sure if its something to do with my wiring harness or what, but any help would be appreciated, thanks. If this is in the wrong area, I appologize.
well I'll be honest, I'm new to 240's as well, but I'll give ya a few things I think it may be..
First off, have you tried to move the headlights manually (w/ the little ***** next to them under the hood) to make sure they go up and down smoothly?
Second, are you sure the headlight isn't getting caught on the hood? (of its not aligned properly that is)
Third, are your wires all connected correctly? Are you sure you got a good motor? or have you tried to spin the motor before you put it in the car? Electric motors bind up sometimes.
Again, not very sure, just throwing ideas out there.

Thanks for the reply....well yes the motor will turn by hand. Im pretty sure its the wiring because the arm that moves the headlight will move, but only when its in a certain position, hard to explain. Like the headlight will not raise when I hit the headlight button, i have to do it manually, but after a certain twist, it will open half way then close again, it almost seems like its a relay or something because it wont open all the way, just half way then closes. All the fuses are fine, everything is plugged in and grounded, the motor im talking about i got from a junked 240 at a junkyard, but since its moving, im sure the motor is not seized up.
sounds more like the arm is just getting hung up somewhere, know what I mean? If you do it manually part way, and it opens the rest of the way on its own, its not wiring. Do it by hand all the way and see if it is harder to turn at one point then the rest of the way. If you find that, you probably found where its messed up. You may have something a little bent somewhere maybe?
No. It's not bent or caught up anywhere, and it never goes all the way up, just like half way for a split second then closes again, i've checked to make sure that the arm doesnt hit anything, and it doesnt..it's really weird...
