s14 or s14a?
How about I stir all your panties up in a bunch LOL
- "zenki" and "kouki" are terms used in Japan to refer to 95-96 or 97-98 Silvia's. Last I checked, there is no such thing as a Silvia in the U.S. so if you wanna get super technical, there's my $0.02.
When I started researching on S14's months before I finally got mine, a 23 year factory mechanic who was helping me with some terms told me the correct names for our KA24DE U.S. spec cars are s14 and s14mc. These are the terms used in the parts listing for the S14 chassis.
That A/B theory isn't all theory... I still don't know of any concrete evidence of a "b' model and I don't think there was such a thing, but in other countries besides U.S. and Japan (yes, there are other places with s14's LOL) there's an actual "S14a" designation for a limited edition model with BBS wheels, leather interior from 'our' LE, and a few other enhancements, including SR20DET tuning by HKS. To make it more confusing, the "S14a" looks like a "Kouki", not a "Zenki". the S14a was one of those end of the production special edition versions, since it was only available for a limited time before they discontinues the S14.
Alrighty... who's first?

looks like i opened up a subject that annoys everyone. my bad. i just read some article that mentioned that the 97-98 s14 was facelifted and that many people refered to it as the s14a, a stepping stone to the s15. i guess this article was full of BS

But do any of those S14a's or b's have anything to do with the US?? We never had the a special edition S14 with BBS wheels and tuning from HKS so why should people call it that now. And i have seen S14mc around before, thats the only way you can differ the chassis from the zenki S14.

then what of the "zenki/kouki" terms? These terms are from Japan, not US. US dealerships used S14 or S14mc; go to the service department and look at their computers and it won't say "zenki/kouki/s14a" at all. It's either s14 or s14mc, at least where I live. The whole "zenki/kouki" thing kind of started out here from the whole "it's cool to be Japan" thing (JDM before the Honda/Acura crowd made the term JDM common) It's like going to Toyota and asking for a new tach for a "hachiroku". I bet 1/2 of them will be like "bless you". LOL

OK the special one you are talking about is the Autech Silvia
and yes they never made it to the states, Like you said they were tuned by hks
and had bbs wheels on them. They also had the distinction of having
the Ace of spade emblem on it.
they are a bit cocky out ther in Japan aren't they
