safc or safc 2

i'm looking to make either one of these little devices my next acquisition. my question is not if you have one for sale or not, but if you do give me a few days and i'll take it off your hand for the right price.

anyways my question is for those of you how have used or are familiar with both. what i'd like to know is what the differences are as far as functions. yes i've read the product descriptions for both but they are too vague and don't really help me.

Biggamehit 08-25-2007 07:05 PM

only difference with safc and safc II that is major is knock sensor other than that.. nothing that worth it

ryguy 08-25-2007 11:01 PM

are you sure you dont want a NEO? wink wink nudge nudge.

Biggamehit 08-26-2007 08:19 AM

neo is honestly hype also bro.. it just looks cooler and basically has more programmable points and vtec controller embedded. they did that to cut down on making two different models..

if you have the money do so if not safc I or II is fine

i doubt you'd be interested in selling it to me for what i'm looking to pay. if the three different models perform the same basic functions i'll go with the cheapest one i can get a hold of. as long as the safc allows me to make adjustments per 500rpm that should suit me just fine.

ryguy 08-26-2007 03:02 PM

lol just makin sure. Mine's for sale soon.

MasterT 08-27-2007 01:08 PM

how much are you looking for for your neo? just out of curiosity

ryguy 08-27-2007 03:12 PM

dont wanna steal your thread ramos.
So MasterT I PMed you.

jramosthe1st! 08-27-2007 09:24 PM

no prob.

actually if he passes let me know what you're asking for it. if you weren't so far away i'd gladly take your car off of your hands too.

ryguy 08-27-2007 09:50 PM

Since you asked, I'm looking for 250 shipped. Its still in perfect condition.
I sold the car today though.

jramosthe1st! 08-27-2007 09:53 PM

give me a about a week to look around and if you still have it we could have a deal.

jramosthe1st! 09-07-2007 06:28 PM

so i got my safc today and noticed that the on line wiring guide has only six wires but the unit has ten. can someone tell me what the other wires are for.

BigVinnie 09-07-2007 06:36 PM

Since you are a KAe owner the knock sensor monitoring won't be a usable feature. Other than that you can still change TP scales.

jramosthe1st! 09-07-2007 08:00 PM

seems like every time i have something important to ask you show up out of nowhere vinnie.

but anyways i though only the safc 2 and neo had allowed knock sensor input?
what i'd like to know is what wires are for the tp and rpms

jramosthe1st! 09-07-2007 08:36 PM

never mind i found something and here it is in case some else was wondering.

Yeah what APEXI doesn't tell you is that there knock sensor feature is pointless any way. Every ecu calibrates knock differently to it's sensor on different model engines, so the safc 2 allows you to calibrate settings depending on what the drivers rev is like at normal engine temperature. You have to calibrate at a low and high rev setting, it's definitely not fool proof and works like ancient ATARI with estimation. Although depending on hot or cold temperature days you can some what estimate for yourself the type of combustion that is occurring with knock using lower or higher octanes. In 70* weather I can even feel a difference than 90* weather and looking at the knock monitor yo9u can some what visualize, but it is no where near close to what the ecu has calibrated..

ok so i have it all wired up now with the setting where i'd like them. there are some things i'd know much about it right now but i seem to have a small problem. after i make the adjusments and drive around to see if i like them i go to edit the settings but everything is back to the default settings.

are there steps i need to follow to save the settings? i'd go and try some things but it's too hot out side so in the mean time i'll look around on the web.

So do you have an SAFC or SAFC2?
