sealant on taillights

sealant on taillights

what is the black glue like stuff that seals in the taillights? do i need to put more back on when i put the lights back in? thanks in adavance

It comes in a big roll, and you can get it at an auto parts store or the dealership. If it all came apart it is probably a good idea to get new sealant, I have used silicone in the past but a bunch of people here say it doesn't last.

sorry ry but the good stuff is only available at a dealership.

the stuff at part stores is a waste of time money and effort. sure is may keep the water out for a few months but then you'll wish you got the good stuff.

The nissan delaership. But I would imagine any brand dealership might carry it?

they have this black stuff called "The Right Stuff" but all you need is the clear silicone

It worked on my old car for like the month before i got rid of it but there are a few people around here that say silicone doesnt last.

-all you need to buy is some gasket maker #2 from advance auto. I don't know why you would need to go to a freakin' dealership, it's just water. Any type of silicon, or other sealant should be fine.

actually now that you mention it iifc the gray gasket maker and the black sealant originally used are about the same. but silicone is not good idea.
