im gonna get ****ed in the *** for this

im 14 and you can probably guess that ive never driven any manual besides attempting to drift in the ferrari simulator at dave and busters...

when you say dump the clutch

do you ride on the clutch and rev while in gear then let go of the clutch and ride into the distance

or keep it in neutral, rev it up, then put the clutch in and slam it into first?

give it a bunch of gas with the clutch in then quickly release the clutch while still on the gas. thats dumping

its great to have a manual on rainy day. even beeing easy i couldn't get traction till 3rd gear. also starting from a stop on steep incline in the rain was an experience.

Haha, yeah, I found that out yesterday. It snowed hear on tuesday, and everything melted the next morning. Anyway, how do you know if a synchro is going bad? I think I killed mine...sometimes, I'll move the shifter into the slot for 2nd, then let off the clutch to find out that it's not in gear. So then I put the clutch back in, put it in neutral, and try to push it back in 2nd, but it grinds. I have to match revs or else it won't go into gear the second time. Note that it doesn't do this all the time, only occasionally. How much does it cost to replace a synchro?

synchros dont cost that much, its the labor that kills it. might as well do all synchros if you plan to do it... but it might a be a bent linkage problem you have

Yeah, I also have problems getting the car into first from a stop, so that makes sense. And bent linkage is probably more expensive to fix, I'd imagine. I guess there's really no way to tell without pulling the tranny, huh? And that's something I don't want to do...I can't be without a car for more than a weekend. Oh well, I guess if I have the clutch changed over a holiday, I'll have it looked at then. I just think it's weird that it only does it sometimes.

Well, I just had to drive in snow for the first time, haha...I did pretty good though. Now I know what it feels like to have the rear wheels slip on ice.

Anyway, I'm not too worried about this 2nd gear problem. It seems that it just doesn't want to go from first to second. Everything else works fine. So, I just have to go first to neutral to second. At least that's better than missing second all the time. And yes, it is doing it all the time now. Any other ideas what might be causing that?

yea, for whatever reason, i can be in a dead stop in neutral. then shift to first, and the someb i t c h will grind a lil bit. but it only does this occasionally. and i just hit 133,000 miles.
