Speedometer is being a *****.
I live in the country so it takes me about 20min of highway driving to get anywhere, anyways whenever I'm doing 50+mph, my speedometer dies. Sometimes it idles at 15mph, but then sometimes it drops so low it's in the negatives. Anyone know what the problem is? It's scary because living in Hickville, AL you can get pulled over for anything, plus me being black doesn't help, lol.

weel don't flip too much cuz a majority of us 240 owners have the same problem with the speedo. mine acts up from time to time.
the best bet would be sure you connections are OK. if not the ask around more cuz someone has a good piece of advice for you(me too)
for the record i'm a brotha too and i get worried when drivin my S13 cuz i don't have my license back yet
know i'm goin to jail for that ticket

ahhh that sucks... get a new gauge cluster... as my buddy stan might tell u....my speedometer and my rpm meter dont work either properly... when im going like 50 it says im going like 80... rpm jumps about when it feels like it... i drive a auto so it doesnt matter to me as much

yeah but i have the feeling that a new cluster wont really fix the problem. then i'll have two good clusters and no speedo.
i just have to go pull it to be sure that it is the sensor.
a real inconvience

I wouldn't run out and get a new cluster. Follow the chain of information.
sorry i didn't see this post, I will catch up now.

If you have a car equipped with an analog cluster you will be in a world of hurt trying to get a HUD to work. They do not plug in and play. They cost 300 dollars. They are more headache than what they are worth.
Please don't do this................. Trust me.

there is a section at the 240 C.O.A. about speed sensors

Start from the sensor.
Check the plug blocks on the back of your gauge cluster. They might be loose as well.
If they are both fine you will have to get the ECU checked. A techtom or other data reader will be able to check your speed signal while you drive. I think this is a physical problem, not a software problem.
I read the posts on the missing teeth and they make sense. You would get a reading up until a certain speed and drop if there were no teeth there.
Something is loose or broken. You will find it.

nissan will tell you exactly what is wrong for 85 dollers an hour. you could also take the speed sensor into a transmission shop or nissan to get tested. the speed sensor is held in by one bolt it slides out of the transmission and then you unplug it further up the wiring.
