SR20DET or RB20DET?

Im thinking about swaping my KA for something better but i cant decide between a sr20 or a rb20 that was in this skyline r32. i cant really find parts for a skyline motor, so which one is better to swap in a 240sx?

Theres threads like this all over the place...with the SR you have a huge aftermarket, with the RB youll probably have more torque and you can say I hAve A sKyLiNe jDM tYte mOtOr yO! Both are good engines, its all reference really, choose the one that fits your needs.

I would say sr over the rb20. I would go with the rb25 though.

It is all what you want. The SR will be cheaper in all aspects. Cheaper motor, cheaper parts and you can get more HP cheaper. Depending on what RB you want, the install isn't as easy as just swapping it.

rb20det is acually going to be cheaper, it's just going to weigh more... you can get rb20det front clips for around $2k ... everything bolts up... but it depends what you're building your car for... you can boost a stock rb20det around 15psi all day if you feel like it..or so i've heard. plus it's got a little more power, being that it's a 2.0l inline 6 compared to the 4cly sr20.. do some searches, and check out other rb forums..

Yeah I forgot that he said RB20.

I would rather have a challange and try to get the most HP out of a 4 cylinder then start with a 6 cylinder.

$ is also a factor here. if you have the $$ to spend on a RB20, go for it. If not then SR like most others.

I say if you have low mileage KA, TURBO that sucka.

everyone read this post...
http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/for...post&p=1192928

the point is

A the RB pulls harder from 4000-8000 rpms (it'll go to 9000 though)
B the SR pulls harder from stop to 3500 rpm's

it depends on how you plan to use the car really. if it's a project car RB honnestly but if it's a daily... it's a tossup seeing how i tend to shift by 3 grand at the latest.

I still want a silvertop RB20

RB20DET swap is cheaper than an SR20DET swap.

Put i like this...
KADET is as good as it gets. you don't have to change mounts like you would have to for the RB. As far as the RB and sr go you save your self time from having a FAT headache from running the wires and harness. Plus when you buy SR's and RB's, it usually doesn't include an intercooling package.Plus when you upgrade injector packages for a 2.0 litre 6 cylinder RB, you are now buying 6 injectors instead of 4. Also there isn't a large supply of parts for the RB engines either or atleast here in the U.S that is, I know many people that have gone from the RB25det platform, and converted back over to KA24det, just simply because the resources for parts are abundant and cheaper.
Turbo the KA and be happy..... Besides 2.4litres is way better than 2.0 litres when BOOSTED.........

technology replaces displacement... if you have the money. in my case i want a stock motor with bolt ons and good tuning... RB20 is what i plan on doing even after all the arguments and jaw japping.

RB20=Higher HP..but harder to find parts..

SR20=Lower HP ..but has almost the same aftermarket as a DOHC VTEC engine..

its really how you wanna go about it.

I wish I went w. an RB setup..can't go wrong w. 250hp stock motor.
