swapping cams...

- well i blew the ka in my '91 project car

i'm planning on pulling the cams out of the '91 and swapping them into my '93 DD. Is there anything i should know before i do this; it seems pretty simple, but i'm not sure about losing my timing. Can i do the swap without having to adjust my timing?

You have to adjust your timing. Its not difficult. Should be marked? Make sure you use a good sealer when putting valve cover back on. Also double check your nuts.

We've had customers come in with missing bolts on there rockers.

not only a good sealer but also make sure the head is clean and free of any oil residue. brake cleaner works really well for this.

oh yeah almost forgot, the cam gears are marked and so it the chain just line up the marks.

umm if your still thinking the cams from the '93 are still 232/232 there not. vinnie corrected himself. there 240/248. same as the 91 cams. so basically you cam swap would be pointless unless of course you swapped one of the 248s on the intake side.

yea i realze that now because i talked to an ebay vendor that sells cams and i asked him what year twin cam the cams were that he was selling. He said that '93's have 240/248 cams and he said he measured the lobes and crap.....

-anyway how would a car with 248/248 cams run? I'm looking to get a few more ponies for cheap and don't want premature valve wear/ anything else bad that would happen. How much power would i make off of this cam swap alone? because if it's like 2 ponies i wont even bother.

im running this cam combo. if your looking for the most power out of stock cams with out a tune dont do this sawp. dual 248s push the power band too high, it wants to pull after redline pretty much. ive noticed low end torque loss but gain alittle bit of tope end. but like i said i cant use all the top end ive gained because of the redline. 248/248 would be a perfect streetable setup with an ecu tune or sometype of piggyback, w/e. there are lots of other cam combos that people do as well. 248/232. 248/240. what ever power band you want. basically i chose 248/248 becasue im not going to be making much power over stock cams anyways. and it sounds bad ***. haha. you also run a tad bit rich with this setup and the idle is a little rough but **** it.

^^^ well i'm looking for a nice powerband that picks up at about 4K. is there any cam combo that would achieve this? Also, if i need a 232 cam, i need to find an OBD2 KA, right?
