timing chain rattle

timing chain rattle

ok my timing chain tensioner rattles so loud its getting my nerves, can I just replace it and that will be that for a while atleast, because I am about to buy a cam, I know I should buy a new timing chain soon but can I just buy a new tensioner and will that fix it?

Before you spend $$ check if it's just the timing chain guides making the noise... there's a lot of threads here on how to do it. You don't really have to replace the chain

no all u got to do is just take the valve cover off and see if u got the timing guides of if u do take it off and surprise no more nosie i had to do the to my car

coming back to this...

... it's actually an easy job to remove both timing chain GUIDES. The valve cover is an "unbolt" job, then the front upper timing cover is also an "unbolt" job, just mark and pull the distributor out slowly first, then unbolt the front cover. Taking the actual guides out that are usually the cause of the rattle problem (one on top under the valve cover, one on the right side of the timing chain) is also a quick socket job. Just make sure you have some liquid gasket to seal up the upper timing cover when you reattach it, and maybe even run a thin bead around the valve cover too. Bolt everything back up (don't forget to SLOWLY reinstall the distributor!), reattach the spark wires, and fire her up. You'll be smiling at the lack of that damn rattling noise. I know I was.

this message is to Raine , please i want to contact u because i have the same problem with my chain, the noise is driven me crazy, i already took off the chain, the guides etc but these things in need to replaced them? for a new ones? if ur can tell how much is the cost in american dollars there because here i can't find it, the same for the chain.
