Tranny swap w/ engine swap

Hey guys, Im new to this board and Im a college student, which means...NO MONEY!!! SO I need to trade in my $400/mo Celica for a cheaper alternative, everyone Ive talked to pointed me @ an MR2 turbo (very hard to find around here) or a 240sx. As it so happens Im looking at a 95 240sx today, one problem...its automatic...I definately plan on doing the engine swap soon (SR20 or CA18, havent decided, but this isnt a question as to the motor choices) and I noticed the engines come w/ a tranny when you buy them, but does it come w/ everything you need to do the 5spd swap also? What else would I have to buy for this? How much extra are we talking to go from auto to 5spd not including the tranny which comes w/ the engine? The reason I ask is I cannot find ANY 95+ 240sxes that are not auto. Just trying to find everything before I actually find an auto and realize it'll be an extra grand to swap when I do the engine, thanks.

The MOST youd have to pay to do the auto-manual swap is around $1k. If you get a front clip, a lot of the stuff you need for the swap comes with it so it will be significantly less than $1k.

Yeah I read about the swap, it says just a swap alone in parts and labor costs $1k, but I will have a tranny with the engine plus everything will be less in labor b/c its all out of the car. But...I guess what Im asking is what I need in addition to what comes with the complete engine package to do this swap at the same time. Thanks for the help BTW.

If I can remember correctly, basically all you need is:

1) clutch pedal
2) clutch master cylinder
3) fluid lines
4) brake pedal
5) shift **** and boot
6) I'm not sure but you might need the interior plastic that surrounds the shifter

Anyway these parts shouldn't be expensive from a junkyard, and you should be able to do the work yourself.

5 speed tranny
tranny lower boot and upper boot (should come with the tranny)
shift boot
tranny to engine backing plate
flywheel and bolts
pressure plate and bolts
tranny to engine bolts
driven disk
thowout bearing
pilot bushing
clutch master, and slave (usually on the tranny)
clutch hydraulic line upper and lower
clutch hydraulic dampner
rubber clutch hose to slave
bracket for clutch line
clutch pedal
brake pedal
tranny crossmember
5 speed driveshaft

Many times it does, but there are no guarantees. The seller is giving you the clip for the engine, anything extra you get is just a lucky break.

whats the usual price difference between an engine setup (tranny, engine, i/c, a/c, etc.) and a full front clip?

Getting just the engine isnt worth it. If you dont get the clip, youll spend a lot of money on little things to get the engine to work that you would already have if you got a clip. It often times ends up being more expensive than getting a clip. Plus anything you dont use from the clip you can sell again and recoup some of your money.

yeah but I was talking to dauntless on another board (or was it this one?) and he and others (heavythrottle performance) sell the engine package, i.e. everything you need for the swap, so i dont really have a need for a clip if its everyhting do i?

Yes thats true if you go through a trusted shop like heavythrottle and get the whole thing then thats ok. But some people sell sr20s on ebay and thats just all kindas of wrong. Make sure you know the place youre getting it from is trusted, and just make sure you ask a few people if theyve dealt with them before. There are a lot of people out there just waiting to screw you over.
