Trans. Noise

I have a 93 240SX SE with just under 80K on the motor. Whenever I take it above 5000 RPM's there is a whirring noise from the gearbox. Is this normal or something I should worry about?

SlickSX 01-28-2005 11:46 PM

im having the same problem. please someone repsond

Wakuwakusan 01-30-2005 08:34 PM

Turn up the radio! the sound will magically go away!

Roscutoo 01-31-2005 11:13 PM

Haha, the sound may, but if there is a problem, I'm sure it will come back and let its presence be known. Does anyone else other than SlickSX and I have this noise?

purduinasi 01-31-2005 11:25 PM

No clue, throwout bearing maybe?

Roscutoo 01-31-2005 11:46 PM

No, I've had that happen in my Camaro, and it causes a horrible squeal. This is just a whine at high rpms.

Wakuwakusan 02-01-2005 09:32 AM

replace the pilot bearing/bushing, the parts really cheap but the labor is a *****.

Roscutoo 02-01-2005 02:07 PM

Yea those are a pain in the ass (did it on the Camaro), is there any other ideas before I resort to that?

toycar 02-01-2005 11:35 PM

probably a bad throwout bearing.
