Transmission swap

alright guys listen up... ill tell you the whole situation in a nut shell basically...

my a/t tranny on my 91 is on its way out ... it chugs and drains alot of my gas... it revs really high ( like 4500rpm).. and downshifts very poorly.... one of my friends has a 89 a/t tranny in a shop just laying there... my question is ... will the 89 tranny fit in my 91.....

i talked to that mechanic that has that tranny in his shop... he told me it should fit right in... but the belt housing is a bit different and shouldnt be much of a problem.... he is gonna charge me 300..and will have it done in 1 day .....

MY QUESTION IS... WILL THE SWAP WORK ... ANY POSITIVE/NEGATIVE SIDES TO IT ?

HELP ASAP !!!

I'm pretty sure a direct swap won't work. The bell housing are too different as far as mounting goes. You would be able to just swap the internals though. More work....... sucks.

i've heard, from a few sources, that all the ka tranny's are the same. if i were you i'd definately try to find out the condition of the tranny you are trying to swap in...the mileage, etc? i hope its in better condition than yours. why's it laying in that guy's shop anyways?
