What could 12k get me?

If you've seen my 1st thead in the Newbie section you'll see im no stranger to the 240, so here my dilema... Im coming in to some money soon and ive got 12k budgeted to either put in the Evo or buy a 240/SC300 drift project or some sort of AWD car as a DD. If i were to choose the 240 how much would it cost for a either S13 coupe (1991 or up) or a 95 S14? Ive been out of the game for a while and not sure what the cars are going for now.

Then how much are clips going for? Id like to go with an RB25, but i think the cost would be too much, so an S14 SR20DET? Id also want to do the basics with the swap (clutch, FMIC, turbo back exhaust, boost controller, fuel pump, injectors, Apex'i power FC, etc.) Would this be doable for 12k? Id have a shop do the swap due to the fact that i live in an apt, but id do the other bolt on stuff if it would save the money. Appreciate your guys input!

12K can get you plenty:

Good S14 SR20 : 2200-3000 (?)
Clutch: 350
FMIC: 700-1000
AVC-R: 400
Fuel Pump: 125
TurboBack: 500-1000
PFC: 800-1200 (depends onf D or L-jetro)
Injectors 500
Swap Labor: 1000-1300 (depends on who does it of course)
Turbo Upgrade: 1000-1200 (if new)

Total Roughly 8000-1000

Plus other costs (oil lines, radiator hoses, etc, etc.)

Plus with that much power you are gonna wanna do suspension stuff like coilovers, RUCAS, T/C rods, tie rods, definitely subframe spacers.

You should still be able to stay around 12K then, with wheels and tires putting you slightly over that.

And thats if you buy all new stuff, good quality

Personally I'd try to find a nice s14 (about 5-6k). With the left over money you could invest and make money, or for 5-6k you could have a very nice SR or KA build with suspension work.

**** ruiz. Get a 240sx and make it awesome. For 12k you can make a kickass RB25 S14.

I already have something better than a 240... An Evo jk! Thanks for the info though guys. I had every intention of taking advantage of vendors and such as ive done through EvoM and found AMAZING deals! Also a vendor on EvoM, SpeedElements, is fairly close to me and normally does Evo stuff, but is a very competent shop and would trust them to do the swap. Plus they are really big on package deals, so if i spend 7k with them (5k taken out to buy the car) they will give you amazing discounts on labor and parts.

This is really making me want to spend the money on building another 240. I also added everything up and for what I want to do to the Evo it'll only cost me 7k with everything to get me 400AWHP on 91 oct. (around 450 or so w/ meth. injection) and still leave me enough money to get a clean S13 coupe and a SR20 swap, so i may go that route.

idk how bad you want the 240, but I would go ***** out on your evo, and then save the rest.

Its just that they are two completely different beasts so to speak. AWD push is nothing like RWD push. Also the Evo has the turning radius of semi truck and the 240... Well if you feel like your understeering just give it more gas . I bought the Evo cause i was moving to a place with snow, but i really miss RWD, so i want the best of both worlds

Also after 400hp i dont want to do anything else. 400hp will make the car a low 11 high 10 sec car. The 7k includes coilovers and new wheels (the MR BBS wheels for daily/track use and use the factory Enkei's for snow tires) BTW.

I think I can relate a little to what you're going through. I bought my STi a few years ago and wanted to get another car for a daily driver so I could keep the miles off my Subaru. I bought a 240 b/c I wanted something that was cheap and fun to drive. I bought my first 240, an S13, for $1100. It didn't take long to get hooked on modding the car but I find myself torn between the two now. I too want to make around 400awhp with my STi but I would also like to have about 275 from the 240. I don't know what to do. It also doesn't help that the 10K I have in a CD is being saved for a down payment on a house next year. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and welcome to S-Chassis.
