What do you sugest?

So I'm rather new to this whole car tunning thing, and I would like so advice if you don't mind. The deal is that my parents are about to by a "new" car for me in a month or so. I say "new" because they all ways buy used and for really cheap. So I've been looking at alot of cars recently, and I've been really intrested in a older Nissan. You can get a one used for well under 3K, and there is enough stuff out there to upgrade it over time. So basicaly, what is a good car to buy? Simple as that. What ever you could tell me would be helpful. Thanks for helping a n00b.

Personaly, I'm looking at a 240SX for now. The thing is that I have no idea what's out there, but the numbers I'm seeing right now point at 92 or older Nissan 240 or 200. But I have no idea which is better. I guess that's why I'm here. Hope you guys can help me out.

How could i have guessed that?

But really, why is the 240 better than the 200? Is it just because the 240 has a bigger number?

bigger number means bigger engine. well for the most part. the 200sx had several engines in it. the vg30e was probably the best and it has more power than the ka in the 240sx. although those are really rare. most had the ca20e IIRC.

240s are newer and probably safer to get. cars that are edging 20 years old is a little iffy.

Ok, so the 240 is better. What year would you suggest? Keep in mind that I'm most likely to go for a S14 since they are easier to get for under $3000. And yes, $3000 is just about the limit, so a S15 seems to be out. Unless you can find one for me.

And another thing, I am just pulling all these random numbers out of my butt, so if you read this and there is no such thing as an s14 or what ever, please tell me.

Its ok...your learning

S13 is the car to go for when your budget is 3k or below. There is no S15 in the US, only S13 and S14. If you can find one, get a 91-93 240sx

You'll be hard pressed to find a decent S14 for $3000... with that budget the S13 is the best way to go, preferribly 91-up for the DOHC engine, unless you have that "swap thing" in your plans

I'd say with that budget go for a 89 - 94 nissan, cause usually they go for about 2k, i got mine just a little under 2k. and with the money left over you can still buy some upgrades, nothing to crazy but you know small things (ex: Cold Air Intake, Catback, muffler, sparkplug wires, etc etc it goes on) plus i feel theres more help and advice on 240sx than there is 200sx, cause seriously i barely see a 200sx or hear about it these days...

BTW if possible try and not get a misty mettalic blue (LH1) collered 240sx, cause i have one and god is it such a hassle to get it touched up...actaully i just dunt have the income to get the paint he he V_V I made myself sad again.... anyhow good luck hopefully future 240sx owner!! pics when you get your car ^_^
