where does water in sunroof go?

I have a 96 240 se with sunroof.

I recently bought the car, and a piece of the SUNROOF SEAL was broken. Therefore the sunroof is not totally sealed.

My question is.......

Is there a place that the water trapped in the sunroof cavity drains to? I'm a paranoid person, and worry that water got in there in the recent rains, and that it will sit, and rust from the INSIDE, OUt.

Second sunroof question, which MAY answer my first question.

I have a leaky REAR tranny seal. Whenever my windows are down i smell NOTHING. However, when i open my sunroof, i am overwhelmed with the smell of tranny fluid. I'm wondering MAYBEE if the sunroof drain/runoff is near the rear of the tranny.

ANyone know the answer???? tHANKS!

the sunroof doesnt have a drain. it just sit and dries.
your smelling the tranny fluid because your sunroof is almost sucking the air right out of your car. and, you need to check the bolts that go on top of the tranny filling spot. make sure they are tight and arent leaking.

I don't know about your tranny fluid smell but sunroof's do have drains. Stock sunroof's aren't made to keep ALL of the water out, so your car(if it has a stock sunroof) should have drains around the sunroof that let out by the tires. there are usually little rubber things that catch debris and crap. if they get clogged water can build up and give you a leaky sunroof.

Um, about tranny fluid - you dont' smell it with the windows open because - well, air is circulating in and out of the cabin.

As for sunroof drainage, yes - there are two rubberish drain tubes that run from the back corners of the sunroof assembly, down the C-pillar, and out somewhere in the rear quarter panel. sunroof/moonroofs all have a drainage facility - they're not supposed to just "air dry" because if that was true, then after a week-long storm you'd have a pool of water sloshing around up there.

As for it smelling like tranny fluid when you open the sunroof (weird)... how about mixing some laundry detergent and water, and then slowly pouring it in the sunroof channels... maybe it'll neutralize the smell, if the source of the smell is actually the drain tubes themselves. If not, then maybe there's some crap that spilled on the upper surface of the sunshade or something.

THanks a lot man.

I'll try that soapy water thing.(great idea). I think the smell is because of the leaky tranny fluid from my rear seal. The fluid is strong smelling stuff, so i'm just assuming the air catches the smell from the tranny leak, and some of it travels up those tubes.

Thanks again!!!!!

the drain tubes get clogged from time to time... leaves and dirt get caught up in them... get a fish tape from the hardware store... it is used to pull wires thru conduit for electrical outles... push the tape up thru the vent tube by the rear wheels until it reaches the sunroof... go easy and thake your time... you might want to put plastic bags over your seats because there might be some junk fall on them when doing this... you will know when you are at the end of the drain cus you will hear the tape tink on the metal inside of the drains... when removing the tape go easy... dont wanna pull the drain tubes off...

Or you can try compressed air. My cousin did this to his old Mazda - he used an air compressor and shot the air from the top, and all this dust and crap started falling from the bottom of the car LOL
