Wiring different from FSM
I am putting my old head unit into my new car and (surprise surprise) I am having some major issues again. The biggest issue is the colors of the wires. I have two solid blue wires coming out of my harness when I know there should only be one. There is also a purple wire missing, which I believe is the extra blue wire. The purple wire is supposed to be twisted around the pink wire, but this extra blue one is (speaker wires). Has anybody ever run into something like this where the wrong color wire was used? My other issue is there is no hot wire running to the head unit. The black and red wire is dead, but the fuse is fine. The previous owner put the head unit in by wiring it directly to the battery. According to the FSM, the radio hot wire isn't shared by anything else between the fuse box and the radio. Anybody have any suggestions?
oh wow... looks like you ran into the same problem I did when I got my S14... I couldnt figure out what was what so I ended up sending the car over to my buddy's audio shop. 200 bucks later, everything worked perfectly.
Sorry I cant be much of help on this one.

sounds like it's time to break out a volt meter and a aa battery.
with those two things you should be able to solve your problem.
on newer head units the blue wire is the remote for the amp. maybe that's what one is for.

I figured it out. This one has me going crazy.
The blue wire that I had wired up as the 12v switched was in reality a speaker wire that was supposed to be purple. The other blue wire was the 12v hot. No I am not colorblind, I had the stock radio pigtail from another car that I was re-wiring back into the car (so I could use an adapter harness) and the wire was purple. The wiring was also stock and never tampered with, so this was a mistake on the assembly line. Somebody used a blue wire where they should have used a purple one. Heres the kicker- its as if the chassis was positive instead of negative. I can't figure it out. The 12v constant is cold but the head unit keeps memory.
