Work's jock strap; population:everyone

Alright so I got a kouki. Sweet. Its slammed. Hella sweet. WITH STOCK WHEELS BABY! Not sweet.

After doing some research wheels that not only look good but are light-ish (because I only have the rear set of some light ****ing Wedsports), I began to notice that lesser known brands or brands that are actually looked down upon, actually weigh within a pound or two of the big name brand wheels.

Whatever makes sense, considering most wheels are made the same way.

What is very curious to me although, is the fact that Work's wheels aren't exactly lightweight... Granted their not heavy, but still for the price of their wheels shouldnt they be a bit nicer?

It just disappoints me when I can get a 18"FN wheel for 19-20 pds and when I look over at the Work XD9 its the same wieght.

Is the price difference just because Work wheels are "cooler" than the other brands?

.end rant.

On another note, anyone have pics of 17 or 18" Work XD9's on a s14?

Weight is not even a factor at the level we're at, and most work wheels are somewhat "heavy" because they're cast aluminum. They have higher wheel making standards than many other wheel companies and are very popular, and they aren't THAT expensive compared to other companies that can be mentioned in the same sentence. Seriously. Higher end companies such as volk have lighter, stronger wheels because of their higher standards and use of forged aluminum monoblocks to make their wheels. At our level though, totally all about aesthetic preference.

Then why do people ***** about sportmax's weight? Granted they're knockoffs but no one seems to mention that.

^ I agree with Mr Spencer on that.
The Most important thing in the whole wheel debate is preference.
Some guys dont mind dropping big bread on the real deal high-end wheels while others feel the cheap knock-offs work just fine.

As mentioned above, weight isn't really an issue to even consider being that these wheels are going on daily drivers not purpose built, track dwelling race cars. So why sweat it if your wheels weight 25lbs versus the 15lbs of a fully forged one-piece track wheel. It just needs to look decent and get you around town.

knock offs will always cost knock off price and hi-end wheels with good R&D and strict Q.C. will always cost more--you get what you pay for

Im not in anyway saying that knock offs look anything like quality wheels.

I think really my issue comes down to I was hoping Work wheels were lighter considering the fact I plan on autox'in the hell out of the s14 this year.

Just disappointed. Anyone willing to lend me a hug?

yeah most work wheels weigh about 23-25lbs. get some enkei rpf1 if you want something lightweight and large diameter. or just cheap out and get some mitsubishi wheels. they weigh about 2lbs less than stock se wheels and are 2.5" wider

ok so work emo's which are cast, 17x9 approx 20 lbs, 18x9 approx 23 lbs.

That's not bad considering they're cheaper than most brands mentioned in the same sentence and their wheel making process is tried and true.

I will have to say one thing. While it is true about it being more "aesthetic" for us, you still want to consider a lighter rim or as light as possible for the size rim you want. Your engine will be able to move the car with less effort due to the loss in weight... well... anywhere on the car.

Losing weight at the rims would also improve braking. Best way to put it, its like spinning a merry-go-round (I know, not a good example), if no one is on it, you can spin it with your hand without working too hard to move it. Put a few fat kids on there and it becomes more difficult. (yes, I know that was a bad, but comical example...)

Overall, you'd want to lose some weight in key places, rims, flywheel, drive shaft, hood, trunk, doors (track use cars only please! for your safety!), rear seat etc.

Every 10 lbs you shave off is better than gaining 1 hp.

Back on track, my only argument here is that there is an overall reason for going with lighter rims, track or daily use. And yes, Work rims are great quality rims, but a bit on the heavy side. Plus I'm not baller enough to buy those rims. Not to mention I'd lose them over night where I live.
