would this work?

i have the painted altezza tail lights on my s13 and for the center piece i left two rectangles for my reverse lights. i think it makes it look really cheap so i wanna just paint the whole thing black, but i need reverse lights to be legal.

soooo, i was wondering if it was possible for me to extend/run the wire for one of the reverse lights up to my hatch and splice it into the brake light on the hatch therefore having that function as a reverse light. and i guess i would have to find a way to change the red to clear. it sounds pretty practical to me and i wanted to know if it would work before i actually try it =D

I don't see any reason that wouldn't work. Go for the gold!

Edit: On second thought, you might need to have reverse lights at a certain height or something. I say do it anyway though.

techinically you need reverse lights, but whats the chances of a cop seeing you backing up. if you really want to comply with the laws, you could always mount lights in your hatch window or around your lisence plate. as finding a clear "third brake light" might be pretty hard.

You need both reverse lights and a third brake light.

Youre way more likely to get pulled over for having a white 3rd brake light or no 3rd brake light than to get pulled over for no reverse lights.

Could you make some sort of like split rubber tubing outline or like plastic around the rectangles to make it look a little better?

Wiring the reverse to your 3rd brake light will work but somthing with leds for reverse would be awesome especially if you could flush some white leds under your 3rd brake light or somthing like that, the only thing is, is that in the daytime leds are a little harder to see or thats what i have been told by people who follow me on my bike, i have led turns on it.

LED turn signals? Are the like stock replacement bulbs, just using LEDs instead of a bulb with a filament? If so, thats the problem. Those things are garbage and put out next to no light.

There not repacment bulbs its a new assembly with the leds already in the light with wires coming out of the side of the piece so you can wire them in to replace the factory lights, I had to get new turns due to the fender eliminator kit on my motorcycle
