i have a quick question.
i'm thinking about buying an aluminum flywheel and would like to know how long it will take to remove and install. i know much of this depends on how mechanically inclined a person is and the tools used so lets just say i know what i'm doing and have all the necessary tools.
also if you have some tips i'd like to hear them. i've never had to do this so i just want to know what to expect.

same amount of time it would take to install a clutch. you have to do all the same stuff. around the internet floats many ways of rigging things up to get the flywheel off. i recommend going out and spending about 120 bucks like i did on a decent impact gun ( electrical ) and you will have the flywheel off in a matter of seconds after you remove the tranny and clutch etc.
my very first clutch job took me about hmm 2 to 3 hours.. but i had lots of build time before i got my 240.... it can be done it one day. just refer to my clutch changing write up

i know the same steps are taken for a clutch but i've never done that either. when i had my engine re-built i have the mechanic install a new clutch while he was at it so i shouldn't have to worry about that for a while. i already have a pneumatic gun so i'm set as far as tools go.
i looked around for a write up but i didn't find it, it's the white bunny set up right?

I would say its going to take a couple of hours if you have never done it before. I just put a fidanza flywheel in my car like 5 days ago. Just follow the write up, but I would HIGHLY recommened having atleast 1 other person to help you handle the transmission. It can some times be a pain in the **** to get the input shaft to line up properly with the clutch and pilot hole.
A clutch alignment tool might help when putting it all back together, If you cant get one, then just make sure the clutch disk goes in perfectly centered.
I used the hoist and tools at work and had the trannmission out in 25 minutes or so, took about another half hour to have everything back in. Like S13NismoStyle said, The input shaft will be your biggest issue with the entire job, be expected to spend a lot of time with it.
Also it would be a good time to either change your Throwout bearing (if it needs it) and grease the pin that the fork sits on.

^^^it's almost imperative that you have a friend help you. You need two people to bleed the clutch, as well as needing two people to stab the transmission in and thread in some bolts. I however did dis-mount and stab my tranny back in by myself by just bench-pressing it in and holding it up with one arm while i threaded in some bolts, but i'm 6'3"- 250lbs. and i have some guns on me.lol I say buy it, wait till you have a couple days off, buy a couple cases of beer, and go at it with your friends.
P.S. you DO need an impact gun. I even tried heating it with a torch and everything.

one of my main concerns was the weight of the tranny. according to the write up it's only about 75lbs. i'm only 5'5" and 160lbs but i once dead lifted the entire engine so i think i'l be alright. hopeful i'll get to doing this in the next few months when work slows down.

i have done it all alone .. but as the others have said... .a friend is a plus..
by the way my 2 hours were on the ground with jackstands.

right now i'm thinking about fidanza but like always i don't want to spend more money that i have too.
i want something that a quality part and not so knock off like most junk found on ebay.

well you dont have to bleed the clutch just unbolt the slave cylinder from the tranny dont take off any clutch lines. also i took off my flywheel bolts with a wrench but then again i had my engine out so i had alot more space to work with.
anyway a manual 240sx tranny is easy just remember to disconnect all the cables and connectors from the tranny.
i have one question myself though, i torqued my flywheel bolts to about 120flbs of torque is that tight enough? i didnt have an inpact gun at home so i used my torque wrench and my engine isnt going back in for a while but i just wanted to make sure i wont have my flywheel snap off and rotate freely in my tranny at 7000rpms LOL
