Ecu Ka-t

i have a 92 hatch in the process of becoming a KA-t and was just looking for some input on ECU choice. i don't have much expeirience with KA turbos and need some help figuring out the ECU situation. should i get an ECU ready for the turbo or should i just have mine re-flashed? SAFC? anyone with a KA-t please let me know as this is the last leg of my KAT build. well getting it on the streets again anyways. thanks alot guys

it depends on what injectors you are running. As a general rule of thumb, you can control injectors that are less then 50% bigger than the old ones with just a piggyback ecu. if you go more than 50% larger though, your gonna have to run a standalone ecu.

Stock injectors???? what do you think the load on those will be, Maxing them out would be very bad! what Psi will you be running?why not try some 370's from the Sr to provide some extra fuel (they fit right in no mods or anything, and they are only about $100)? try www.ka-t.org, join the forum and read up, that is one of the best turbo ka forums out there.

do NOT run stock inj. on any turbo set up.....with a t3/t04, you will be maxing the **** out of your injectors....like ^ said, if you want cheap, go with the sr 370's, or get some deatschwerks (or however you spell it lol) injectors....they're cheap, and proven to be pretty nice.

as for the pre-tapped oil pan.... every once in a while on one of the forums...namely ka-t.org, someone will sell a pre tapped oil pan.....but if not, i would just tap your own

I have heard before if you were to run a stock sr t25 turbo on a ka and just upgrade the fuel pump and add an adjustable fuel regulator then you can use the stock ka injectors.?? i found it in a mag somewhere....

adj FPR is not needed at all. we share the same FRP as an SR and you don't want to run stock injectors as someone pointed out you can get 370cc's for 100 bucks.

my setup is simple

370cc injectors
safc I
N60 maf

no issues

im upgrading to 550cc this week becuase im getting my holset, ill be getting those from a STi.

The man speaks the TRUTH!!!!!
If in fact you are using an SAFC you will also want to get a wide band O2 sensor. stock KA ecu's run at about a A/F 13:1 ratio for natural aspiration and that number changes depending on bolt on applications, and ignition timing (advanced timing usually increases the flame front and EGT which increases knock, knock sensors also calibrate to increase fuel richness if knock is to high). Turbo's need to run closer to a A/F 11.4:1 ratio. You will need a wide band to calibrate 370cc injectors anyways, and with a new MAF with IN/OUT settings on the SAFC. A nice route to go is to get an LM1(wide band to calibrate, also back off (retard timing) between 12 and 18 degrees atthe distributor for OBD1....

haha, i forgot about this post due to the fact that i realized what i was saying and felt dumb... haha got an safc, 370cc's, and just looking for the MAF... however, a little update for those curious... i put the turbo to the side until i could get everything i needed as to do it all in one day and have no down time getting to work and whatnot... im on the turnpike cruising home one day and notice my temp gauge is bouncing around between normal operating temp and max hot , determined not to leave my **** on the side of George Bush to get jacked ontop of knowing that it wasn't something i could fix on the shoulder) i drive the remaining 2 - 3 miles to my apartment (and my garage ). half way there i my car has become a massive cloud of smoke and sputtering. i get to my apartment complex and kill it, coast into my garage (leaving a nice trail of oil i'll probably get charged for) and pop the hood only to find that my coolant is bubbling like a kid blowing into a soda with a straw and my dipstick is telling me my oil is nice and milky ... long story short, i blew my head gasket (which has been long expected) and have spent the last 2 days getting the old motor and tranny out and settling the new motor and tranny in... so i have a fresh motor to work with and im tearing the old KA down and thinking about fully building it in my garage... should be a fun project and should be even more fun when it's back in my car with the turbo anyways, thats my story and im sticking to it... sorry for the novel hahaha.. later, i'll keep everyone posted
