Unhappy 89 240sx engine bay screaming noise?

I have already checked the timing chain. Its fine, now do you guys think it is the powersteering pump? The sound starts up when my car is running cold. (1g-3.5g rpm it makes the sound)

hopefully some poor s13 owner knows where im coming from....

thanks

Does it just happen on startup, or continuous - as if it's gonna explode or something?

Try turning the wheel all the way in either direction then apply a little more pressure, if you hear a screech then your looking at a power steering pump problem. Also try spraying some belt dressing to the p/s belt, the screech could just be the belt slipping.

It myte be Your belts...To check open hood, start car (cold) if You have noise pour little water on the belts, if noise stopped, it is Your belts.Tighten them,or replace,as needed.Note: Don't overtighten ! Belt should move approx 1" when You push it with Your finger.

Yeah, I've got a 90 that makes that noise when it's cold. Usually once I get the car going and it heats up the sound goes away. I've figure it's the belt slipping. It's been doing that each winter for years and nothing bad has happened so it can't be that serious.

Best of luck,
Matt

How exactly did you check the timing chain? The noise problems with the timing chain aren't exactly coming from the chain itself, but the guides

I had a similar scream and I think it was the belt wheel on my A/C compressor - shot it with some WD and its better now - but again, I am not 100% sure it was this and since it only happened recently it may have been something else as well and it fixed itself

Good Luck

It is most likely the belts. When you rev the engine when everything is cold the belts will slip. Even my car slips a little when I rev it after starting it up.

sometimes my car also make the same noise when I turn on the AC with idle RPM but I thought you are not suppose to spray WD40 to any belt. cuz won't that make it slip more?
