You got most of it. Other than what you said, the first 2 letters are the engine series and the E stands for eletronic fuel injection.

KA24DE

"KA" is the code designation for the engine. I dont think it is an acronym. Same goes with the other Nissan engine models: SR, VG, VQ, QR, GA, etc.

"24" is the engine size in liters, the first digit being the tens digit and the second digit being the tenths digit. Hence, 2.4 liters. Same goes for 16, 20, 25, 30, 35, etc.

"D" stands for dual overhead cams (DOHC). Absence of this D means that the engine uses single overhead cams (SOHC).

"E" means that the engine is electronically fuel injected.

"T" is turbo, "TT" is twin turbo.

Other stock engines include: GA16DE, SR20DE, SR20DET, VG30DETT, VQ35DE.

"KA-T", or more commonly "KA+T", is slang for KA24DET, which was never a Nissan factory engine. The T in KA+T is an added aftermarket turbo aparatus. The T was added to the KA24DET. Hence KA+T.

It's an old myth from the internet... Just like SR means Street Race. Nissan, for the most part, just uses random letters.
