If the alternator is bad will the car still start? I replaced the battery and she wants to turn over she just won't. I'm getting fuel and spark. One day I heard a really bad whinning noise and the next day I was on my way to get some parts to take care of it. I started the car, put it in reverse, then I turned on the headlights and she DIED. I haven't been able to get her to crank since.

 

if ur battery is dead enough, it won't crank or anything. if ur alternator is bad, i'll loose power until it turns off. if it starts, try to run it, and remove the battery, if it dies, its the alternator. Measure the voltage while its runing, if its over 12volts, then its workign, it shoudl be 14.5 volts.

 

i already figured out what was wrong i'm sorry for not posting on this thread sooner. It was my timing all along. one of the guides came off and rolled up between the chain preventing it from spinning.
