Any help would be appreciated

I have a simple but as of yet unanswered question. Does anyone know which cylinder is the #1 cylinder on a KA24DE engine? The spark plug wires are numbered 1-4 from the front to the back but since I don't have my FSM yet I cannot tell if this is also the cylinder numbering. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, with the valve cover off and the spark plugs out I took a flashlight and shined it down into the first cylinder with that piston at TDC (as close as I could get it). I could see the piston had a 2 stamped on it.

isnt it something like...2143....in that order from front to back? I'm not possitive but I think that's it. Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.

The cylinder numbers a 1-2-3-4 front to back.
The distributor shouls have the #1 plug wire in the upperright corner & run COUNTERCLOCKWISE 1-3-4-2.

This is the standard for ALL single plug 4 cylinders (firing order & cylinder location)

Thanks alot! I am doing my timing chain right now and needed that information desperately. I have been working on cars now for about 15 years. However I have just purchased this 240sx (93) and have limited experience with it. And 4 cylinder engines in general.

I have managed it so far and have all the right tools. I do not however have the FSM for reference. I downloaded the timing chain directions from here.

http://www.**********/links/installs/timing_chain/

So far it's been a very good guide but something tells me it may not be for my exact year. And there ARE differences in the KA24DE engines I am finding. Small ones but definitely differences. For example....the Chiltons (read POS) manual shows a picture of the crank pully timing marks next to an aluminum timing marker which clearly is NOT present on my engine. Without the FSM I am going to have to bring the engine to TDC 0 using the ol long screw driver in the #1 cylinder trick.

What I did see on my engine near the crank pulley is a steel pointed stud coming out of the engine about two inches away at 2 o'clock. Is this my timing reference? Anyone that knows for sure I'd appreciate your input. Once I get number piston to TDC I'll look but it would be great to know for sure.

I now have the top timing cover off. The "pointed stud" IS the timing reference. So I have answered my own question.

great information. I was also researching on the "timing" of my 93 but couldn't figure what to set it to.
