Anyone know how to get rid of the governor?

I have a 90 240SX and I was racing a Civic on the freeway and I had passed him and was going about 115mph in 5th gear when the revs suddenly dropped and he passed me. Any way to get rid of the rev limited or speed governor? Will a Apexi S-AFC solve the prob?

Speed Governor

Hey, here's a bit of advice.

Located on the Stock ECU is a yellow wire with a green stripe (about 8 wires in). If you cut this wire you get rid of the speed governor. Then you are able to go to 120-125 before the rev limiter kicks in. To get rid of that, you unplug the signal sender from the back of the tranny so the engine cannot read RPM's and you can go about 150

If u cut the wire to the tranny then the tach wont work right? I dont think a 240 can get up to 150mph.

150mph

as far as the 240's top speed goes.....It is built with the same characteristics as the Skyline and SR20DET combined into one. Most stock Skyline tranny/differential combos can run about 155-160mph, SR20DET's do about the same for top end. The 240SX has similar tranny gears and almost actually, slightly higher differential gearing than the Skyline GTR which would put it close to its mark. Just my 2 cents....

Whats it cost for a new ecu? one that doesnt have a speed limiter.. also with this ecu how fast can you go (like without being past redline).. and where can you get the new ecu?
Sorry for the newb questions, i dont know much about 240s and i want to know as much as possible before i buy one

i think as far as US dealers go people say they like Jim Wolfs stuff. i also hear that JW will have you waiting for months to get stuff.
i guess i would go with the Apex'i Rev/Speed
it will eliminate(sp) the rev and speed meter and allow for cool speed readbacks on the "pretty" screen..as my girl would say........

there are static chips you can use i guess also , but i don't use a rev remover anyway at the moment.
i'll save my KA for later use and "try" to keep it healthy.........

just check around at a few sites and see what will suit you budget and cars purpose

If you get just a replacement ecu will it still kill your speedometer and your tach? and is there just a replacement ecu instead of just that apexi thing for 250$ ?

a "Stock" 240 may not have the hp to reach those speeds but with a few extra hp it will. especially the S13 with it's ultra low Cd
